Parish Liturgical Committee
Members:
Liturgy committees exist principally to enhance the living experience of the people of God as they come together in yearning to sustain the vision of a kingdom come in Jesus Christ.
The revised General Instruction of the Roman Missal (G.I.R.M.) notes the importance of directions about the preparation of people’s hearts and minds, and of the places, rites, and texts for the celebration of the Most Holy Eucharist (No. 1). It clearly acknowledges that since liturgy is the primary and indispensable source from which the faithful are to derive the true Christian Spirit...the entire celebration is planned in such a way that it leads to a conscious, active and full participation of the faithful both in body and mind (No. 17).
To reach our goal we attend training in Liturgy offered by the Archdiocesan Office of Worship.
Pastoral Manual: Section A-5
Liturgy: Each parish is to have a liturgy committee. Parishes must strive to make
the liturgy a remarkable experience that spiritually nourishes the faithful and sets
them on fire with the love of Christ that they may hold fast to what they have
grasped in faith (CSL, 10).
It is suggested that, including the pastor/priest, the committee include those with
artistic skills e.g., music, art, poetry, as well as those familiar with Scripture,
theology and prayer. It is also helpful that these individuals be familiar with
resources in these areas. It is also "good to include some members of the
congregation who have not taken special roles in the celebration so that honest
evaluations can be made" (MCW, 12). The members of the committee should
receive some training in liturgy. Much preparation is required to properly celebrate
a Sunday Eucharist. It involves the talent of many men, women and young people
too. (STO p.18 n.6)
